Harry E. Wood High School
(1953 – 1978)
Harry E. Wood High School specialized in vocational education and was opened in 1953. It’s originally was located at Manual High School and its curriculum purposed was to equip students with practical and technical skills they would need to be successful after high school.
Harry E. Wood was a Manual High School graduated who was an educator for Manual and a renowned artist and craftsman. Mr. Wood retired from the Indianapolis Public Schools in 1950 and died in 1951. He also taught lectured at many universities.
Although the high school closed in 1978, their athletic basketball and track teams won many Sectional titles. Furthermore, the wrestling team accomplished back to back State Championship win in 1959-1960 and 1960-1961. Harry E. Wood was sold by IPS in 1981.
